While her friends play house, this seven-year-old’s life is in the balance.
Malky, an adorable seven-year-old girl, was recently diagnosed with a liver
cancer ר“ל. She is currently hospitalised close to home, however, she must be
flown to the United States as a matter of urgency for exorbitantly costly
treatment that is seen as the only recourse to save her life.
The situation is such that her parents, who worked full-time to support their family of
nine, have now both been forced to place work on the back burner as they juggle Malky’s
evolving needs. Between shifts at the hospital and the requirements of the rest of their
household, they are being stretched super thin. Despite the exhaustion and worry, they
try their best to hold everything together, however, without work, their resources are
dwindling fast.
The treatment itself, travel costs, the day to day cost of being abroad—all that in
addition to the ongoing living expenses of their family back home—how can they swing
it without a regular source of income?!
When you think of all that is involved, it seems almost impossible to
consider, but can we look Malky in the eye and tell her we can’t
afford it?!?! Finances cannot ever be the deciding factor!
